4. Program Overview

      (1) Educational Objectives

      The Law program was selected as a national-level first-class undergraduate program construction site in 2022 and is a key cultivation discipline in Hubei Province. It adheres to the principles of fostering virtue, cultivating talent, and integrating legal expertise with ethical education, adapting to the practical needs of building a socialist rule-of-law system with Chinese characteristics and a socialist country under the rule of law. The program aims to cultivate inter-disciplinary, professional, and innovative legal talents and reserves with both moral integrity and professional competence. Graduates will possess a solid theoretical foundation, proficient professional skills, and a rational knowledge structure, enabling them to engage in law-based governance, scientific legislation, law-based administration, impartial judiciary, and high-quality legal services, with innovation and entrepreneurial capabilities, familiar with and upholding the socialist rule-of-law system with Chinese characteristics.

      Program Positioning

      Leveraging the university's advantageous disciplines and industry background, the program proactively adapts to the needs of high-quality regional economic development in Hubei Province and the nation. It aims to cultivate high-level, applied, and interdisciplinary legal professionals with good political quality, a solid theoretical foundation in law, and strong innovation capabilities for party and government agencies, enterprises, and public institutions.

      History and Development

      The Department of Chinese Language and Law was established in 2003, the Law Department in 2004, renamed the Law and Business School in 2009. In 2012, the Law program was approved as a provincial key cultivation discipline and granted a master's program in Marxist Jurisprudence. In 2015 and 2017, it was granted the Juris Master and the first-level discipline master's program in Law, respectively. In 2019, it was approved as a Hubei Provincial-level first-class undergraduate program, and the Intellectual Property program (Law category) was added. In 2022, it was approved as a National-level first-class undergraduate program. The school conducts international cooperative education with renowned overseas universities like UNSW Sydney and University of Technology Sydney, offering "3+1+X" and "3+1/3+2" undergraduate-postgraduate programs.

      Distinctive Advantages

      （1）The Law program is a National-level first-class undergraduate program construction site and a Hubei Provincial key discipline. The school has established a high-level legal talent cultivation system based on undergraduate education in Law and Intellectual Property, with the scientific degree program of the first-level Law discipline and the professional degree Juris Master program as the mainstay of postgraduate education.

      （2）Utilizing the "1+X" whole-process mentorship system, the program focuses on cultivating interdisciplinary talents integrating theory and application. Since 2004, the school pioneered the "1+X" mentorship system in the university's undergraduate education, where each undergraduate is assigned a dedicated academic mentor for continuous guidance throughout the four years, comprehensively enhancing students' overall quality. Furthermore, the school has established over 50 practical training bases with institutions like the Hubei Provincial High People's Court, Hongshan District People's Court, and Yingke (Wuhan) Law Firm, enabling long-term joint cultivation to develop composite, practical, and international talents needed by society.

      (3) Core Courses

      Introduction to Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, Jurisprudence, Constitutional Law, Chinese Legal History, Criminal Law, Civil Law, Criminal Procedure Law, Civil Procedure Law, Administrative Law and Administrative Litigation Law, Economic Law, International Law, Private International Law, Intellectual Property Law, Legal Professional Ethics.

      (4) Faculty Strength

      The Law program currently has 37 full-time teachers, including 6 professors and 14 associate professors. Twenty-seven teachers (70%) hold doctoral degrees. The faculty includes one national patent information leading talent, a high-level national intellectual property talent, an expert in the first batch of the CNIPA patent analysis and early warning expert pool, and one nominee for the "Hubei Top Ten Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Jurists/Legal Experts" award. Seven key teachers have overseas study or visiting experience, and two hold doctoral degrees from foreign universities.

      (5) Student Achievements

      Distinguished alumnus Wang Zixin (Class of 2011) completed his undergraduate and master's studies at the Law and Business School. During his studies, he received multiple awards, including the National Scholarship, passed CET-6, served as a volunteer for the 2nd Youth Olympic Games and was awarded "Most Beautiful Volunteer", and held positions including Executive Chairman of the University Student Union. He passed the judicial examination and is now a senior lawyer at Yingke Law Firm (Wuhan).

      Alumna Xu Ying (Class of 2007) completed her undergraduate studies at the school, earned a master's degree in International Law from Northwest University of Political Science and Law, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Zhejiang University. Alumna Lu Yingyi (Class of 2013) pursued a master's degree at Huazhong University of Science and Technology after graduation and is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Institute of International Law, Wuhan University.

      (6) Career Prospects

      Graduation and employment rates for the Law program remain stable, ranking first among liberal arts programs at the university for three consecutive years. Employer satisfaction with graduates reaches 97%. According to graduate surveys, 98% of graduates rate the school's cultivation and management as excellent. Third-party reports indicate that the employment quality of graduates ranks first among provincial universities, with an average employment rate above 95% and average monthly income one year after graduation surpassing that of peers from similar domestic institutions. The 2024 undergraduate teaching audit assessment panel recognized that the program's positioning and talent cultivation objectives align with national and regional economic and social development needs, with significant results in educational reform.
