Law and Business School (School of Intellectual Property) Introduction
The Law and Business School (School of Intellectual Property) of Wuhan Institute of Technology traces its origins to the Labor Economics program established in 1985. In 1997, the Investment Economics program was launched, followed by International Economics and Trade in 2001, Law in 2003, and the founding of the School of Political Science and Law in 2006. It was renamed the Law and Business School in 2009. The Economics program was introduced in 2011, the Intellectual Property program in 2019, and the School of Intellectual Property was established in 2022.
Academic Programs
The school offers a Master’s program in Law (first-level discipline), two professional degree Master’s programs (Juris Master and Master of Finance), and five undergraduate programs: Law (a national-level flagship program and part of Hubei’s "Jingchu Outstanding Legal Talent Collaborative Education Program"), Economics (a provincial-level flagship program), Intellectual Property, International Economics and Trade, and Digital Economy. Specialized tracks include International Economics and Trade (with a minor in Law), Law+E (with a minor in English), Economics (CFA track), and Intellectual Property (with a minor in Data Science and Big Data Technology). In 2025, all undergraduate programs of the school received a full "A" rating in the provincial higher education monitoring evaluation.
International Cooperation
The school has established dual Master’s degree programs in Finance with Massey University ("1+1+1"), a "3+1+X" undergraduate-to-Master’s program with the University of New South Wales, and a "3+1/3+2" program with the University of Technology Sydney. Currently, 94 international students are enrolled in the International Economics and Trade program.
Party Building as the Guiding Force
The School Party Committee oversees 11 branches (4 for faculty, 7 for students), with 285 Party members (71 faculty, 214 students). Under the leadership of the University Party Committee, the school adheres to Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for the New Era, implements Party construction requirements, and promotes the "1+X" Party Flag Guidance model. The second Student Party Branch completed the third batch of the "National Model Party Branch" project and received awards including the Ministry of Education’s second prize for outstanding online education achievements and the provincial "Advanced Grassroots Party Organization" title.
Student Development
The school has 1,593 students (1,222 undergraduates, 371 postgraduates) across 59 classes. The "1+X" whole-process mentorship system, implemented for over 20 years, fosters an all-round education model and has won national and provincial awards for campus culture. Graduate training quality is enhanced through academic reporting mechanisms and discipline competitions. In 2024, students won 57 national awards in top-tier competitions, and teams excelled in the China Graduate Financial Technology Innovation Contest.
Faculty Team
The school has 90 staff members, including 74 full-time teachers (78.38% hold doctoral degrees). Among them are 11 professors, 34 associate professors, and talents such as national intellectual property leaders, experts enjoying special government allowances, and provincial legal experts. Faculty members hold 45 roles in academic associations, and three serve as deputy prosecutors in the Caidian District People’s Procuratorate.
Academic Platforms
The school is equipped with a moot court, case analysis rooms, an economics and trade experimental teaching center, and a library. It has two provincial-level postgraduate workstations, university-level demonstration centers for law and economics, 23 off-campus practice bases, over 10 entrepreneurship practice bases, and a legal clinic recognized as a Ministry of Education innovation training project.
