Delegation from University of Technology Sydney Visits Our University for Lectures and Exchanges

        (Reporters: Lai Xiaomin & Liu Lijun)On the morning of December 11, a delegation led by Professor Tracey Booth, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia, and Professor Grace Li, Associate Dean, visited our university for academic lectures and attended the exchange meeting on the "3+1/3+2" undergraduate-master’s dual-degree international joint training program between the two universities. This series of visiting activities was co-hosted by the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and the School of Law and Business (Intellectual Property School) of our university. Fang Wenhai, Member of the University Party Committee Standing Committee and Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection, attended the event. Wu Jiangyu, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, presided over the exchange meeting. Relevant leaders and staff from the Undergraduate School and the School of Law and Business (Intellectual Property School), as well as student representatives of the program, participated in the meeting and exchanges.

       In the form of themed presentations, Professor Tracey Booth and Associate Dean Grace Li conducted interactive exchanges with teachers and students majoring in Law and Intellectual Property at the School of Law and Business (Intellectual Property School). In the lecture titled Embark on Your Legal Journey: A Guide to the UTS Faculty of Law, taking the UTS Faculty of Law as an example, the two professors introduced the academic planning and career pathways for legal professionals. They also engaged in in-depth discussions with the attending teachers and students on topics such as the convergence between the civil law system and the common law system, and the selection of postgraduate research directions in law.

       At the meeting, Fang Wenhai delivered a welcome speech. He reviewed the cooperation progress between the two parties since the signing of the International Cooperation Agreement in 2023, expressed gratitude for UTS’s long-term strong support, and looked forward to the two universities carrying out higher-level and broader-scope cooperation. He proposed elevating the cooperation from the project level to the institutional strategic level, and building the joint program into a model of China-Australia higher education cooperation by leveraging the advantageous disciplinary resources of both sides. On behalf of the Australian side, Professor Tracey Booth delivered a speech, thanking the Chinese side for its warm hospitality and project collaboration, and expressed her expectations for the program students who are soon to study in Australia.

       Chen Chaojuan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Law and Business (Intellectual Property School), introduced the progress of the program. She reported on the planning, implementation and achievements of the college’s "3+2" Economics joint program and "3+1/3+2" Law joint program. During the free exchange session, Bie Jinqiu, Deputy Dean of the Undergraduate School, and Wu Jiangyu, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, exchanged views on program implementation with the Australian delegation from the perspective of their respective departmental responsibilities, and explored potential areas for further deepening cooperation. Newly admitted students of the program also actively participated in the Q&A session, and Professor Tracey Booth presented them with the admission letters from UTS.

       It is reported that the visiting University of Technology Sydney is a renowned public research university in Australia, a member of the Australian Technology Network (ATN) and the Sino-Australian Engineering Universities Consortium (SAEUC). Ranked 83rd in the 2025-2026 U.S. News World University Rankings, UTS boasts world-leading programs in fields such as Law, Finance, Computer Science and Engineering. The "3+1/3+2" undergraduate-master’s dual-degree international joint training program between Wuhan Institute of Technology and UTS mainly covers undergraduate majors including Economics, Law, Software Engineering, and Computer Science and Technology at our university. Recruiting students in the form of an "Internationalized Innovative Talents Training Experimental Class", the program officially launched its enrollment in 2023.
